Recognition reaction

This type of reaction occurs where there are several signals but only one correct response. This is normally the slowest type of reaction because the player’s processing involves a greater amount of stimuli and processing. An example of this is where the full back is the only defending player guarding his opponent. He positions himself to the side of his opponent. The attacker is moving forward towards him; also the attacking player has two other support players so this is now a 3 v 1. The full back has several signals in his view. The full back must make one reaction response. The one he chooses will be based on his previous experience and reading of a similar situation which can only be experienced during similar situations. Thus, this type of reaction response is best developed during play or competition. Note this is not a choice where it’s a 50:50 chance of success, the success rate here is more limited and the chance of succeeding depends on the perceptual reading and decision making experience and competence of the player.
