Coaching the snatch

Step 6 - Bend at waist

The player starts this progression by standing straight with shoulders back and weight on the heels. From here, a slight knee bend is then completed (step 2 above). Step 6 requires the player to then bend at the waist (hips) so that the bar travels down to just below the knees. The player then returns by unbending the hips. From a bar at mid-thigh position, the player completes the JUMP, CATCH in a ¼ squat. Should the player be able, he may move to a deep squat position.

Figure 7. From a knee bend position, the player lowers the bar to the knees by bending at the waist/hips.

Please observe the video below.

The player moves from a bar at knees position and then performs a JUMP and CATCH into a ¼ squat position.

From this bar below knee position, instruct the player to slowly recoil at the waist to a mid-thigh position and complete JUMP, CATCH and MOVE INTO either ¼ SQUAT or DEEP SQUAT.

Please observe the video below.

The player moves from a bar at knees position and then performs a JUMP and CATCH into a deep overhead squat position.

From the squat position, the player returns to standing with bar overhead position and then lowers bar to waist. The player repeats this action for a number of repetitions.
