Training modes for speed


Speed development involves three tiers of training modes:

  1. Primary training method
  2. Secondary training method
  3. Tertiary training method

These tiers are not independent or exclusive. They overlap and during any given training week all three methods can be successfully applied. Research has shown that players who combine resistance training with speed training and or plyometric training methods will yield better results, for strength, power and speed development (Kotzamanidis et al, 2005, Delecluse et al, 1995, Callister et al, 1988).
