Pre-match warm-up

The pre-match warm-up should always be included as part of the overall consideration of effort and energy during match day. Sometimes the pre-match warm-up can be too demanding and prolonged with the result that late in the game players may prematurely fatigue.

Strength and Conditioning coaches may be given the responsibility to warm-up the squad or team before the game. It is important that the routine selected is well rehearsed and does not include exercises or drills unfamiliar to the players. The guidelines to follow for a pre-match warm-up are similar to those for the practice warm-up routine.
